Each category page lists every device CDSCO has classified in that specialty.

    How this list is built

The device names, categories, intended uses and classes come from CDSCO's online system for medical devices: the risk classification register and the separate Class A non-sterile, non-measuring (NSNM) register. Devices that appear in both are shown once and marked as NSNM.

For 21 of the entries listed here, the class field in CDSCO's register feed is broken, because commas in the intended use spill into it. We took the class for 10 of them from CDSCO's final classification notices, and each of those entries names the notice it came from. The other 11 are shown as "class not stated" rather than guessed.

CDSCO lists 44 entries under a name that also appears with a different class, usually for a different variant, intended use or category. Those entries carry a note.

The register and the published notices do not always agree. For example, the register has 1,148 Class A NSNM entries while the October 2025 notice numbers 1,069, and the radiotherapy and interventional radiology counts also differ from their November 2025 notices. Where they differ, check the latest notice for your device.

In-vitro diagnostic (IVD) devices are classified separately and are not in this list. See CDSCO's notices “Updation of classification in IVD medical devices under the provision of MD Rules 2017” (25 October 2023) and “Provision for risk classification of in-vitro diagnostic medical devices on the CDSCO online system” (6 February 2026).

    Frequently asked questions

How do I find the CDSCO class of a medical device?

Search the device by its generic name in the list above, not by brand or model. Each result shows the risk class CDSCO assigned, the category and the intended use. If a name appears more than once with different classes, pick the entry whose intended use matches your device.

What are the four CDSCO risk classes?

The Medical Devices Rules, 2017 group devices into Class A (low risk), Class B (low to moderate risk), Class C (moderate to high risk) and Class D (high risk). The class decides which authority licenses the device.

Who issues the licence for each class?

According to CDSCO's regulatory pathway chart, State Licensing Authorities issue manufacturing licences for Class A and B devices, and the Central Licensing Authority (CDSCO) issues them for Class C and D. Import licences for every class come from the Central Licensing Authority.

Do Class A devices need a licence?

Class A devices that are non-sterile and non-measuring are exempt from licensing, on condition that the manufacturer or importer registers them under Chapter IIIB of the Medical Devices Rules, 2017. Other Class A devices still need a licence. Use the "Class A NSNM" filter to see the exempt list.

Is this the official CDSCO list?

No. It is a searchable copy of CDSCO's published data, kept by MedPrax Market. CDSCO's own register and notices are the authority, and they change over time. Check the linked sources before you file an application.
